Yvette Noel Schure is an industry veteren with several big names for her clientele. However just one peek at her site shows us who her most prized client is. It's Mrs Beyonce Knowles-Camel.
She gets her own title in the portfolio whilst everyone else gets shoved on one page of two pages, either Female or Male. Despite the fact that Adele, who is also her client, is a bigger star than Beyonce. I've recently become interested in Ms Schure in light of the PR nightmare that 2013 was for Beyonce.
Ms Schure spent 17 years at Columbia Records which culminated in her leaving as a senior VP of the company's public relations department. She left in 2010 to start her own PR firm and took a lot of Columbia artists with her.
Looking at Yvette's portfolio one might notice that a lot of her clients are very low profile with only Will Smith and Beyonce being seen and heard often. This makes me think that for the most part Yvette job is very easy and she only has to micro manage 2 celebrities. The fact that both the Smiths and Beyonce have been dragged for filth recently is somewhat telling. I in no way want to put down a woman who has obviously accomplished a lot (a black woman at that) in a very cut throat industry but some things cannot be ignored.
This situation reminds me of a scene from the movie "The God Father" when Don Michael Corleone effectively removes his father's long time consigliori, Tom Hagen, because he feels that Tom is not a "war time Consigliori". A Consigliori is the advisor to the Don and his right hand man. His role is somewhat similar to that of a PR person, one could say. Don Michael feels that although Tom has been an excellent Consigliori to his father and is known to be thorough and discreet, times are changing and Michael needs a different man by his side as the mafia families go to war with each other.
This makes me ask, is Yvette the right person for the job right now? She seems at a loss for what to do with a celeb when the public turns against them.
When the public started getting sick of Will, Jada and their insufferable children, Yvette was unable to help in any way, in fact the schemes she may have come up with only seemed to make things worse. Will's last movie tanked at the box office, which means the studio and Yvette failed to put together a good publicity plan for the star of the movie and the movie itself. If the movie tanks and the star still looks good, we can assume that it was the studio who failed to do their job right. But Will took a lot of flack for that movie, more than the actual movie itself, meaning his public profile was being mishandled.
Again, we have Beyonce who's entire year has been disaster after disaster. I don't know if Beyonce has got to the point where she is impossible to manage and is making Yvette look bad or if Yvette is just incapable of the expert mass manipulation needed to make truly loathsome people likeable in the public eye. I imagine Yvette, having left Columbia, no longer has the clout that she used to. Therefore her clients, like Beyonce, might be more willing to disobey her or disregard her expert advice.
Perhaps Beyonce feels a sense of loyalty to Yvette and is unwilling to leave her despite the writing on the wall. Personally I think Beyonce needs to call Tom Cruise's people, better yet, Angelina Jolie's people. Yvette's a veteren, she must be capable but at the same time look at the disaster this year has been for Beyonce. What do you guys think the problem is?
