I agree with bell's quotes. I know what she means and it's how I feel. It's a part of what has bothered me about this woman since I began to find her songs irritating in 2008. I find anyone who cites Beonce's supposed agency (as a woman in "control") and claims of feminism as legitimate and inspiring to be willfully delusional. I just don't get it when people say shit Beonce sang in a song or did in a video inspired them in the living and development of their lives. It's ridiculous. There is no defense for her wack shit in the context of genuine feminism or the fair treatment of women and girls. To paraphrase 2005 Kanye: BEONCE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GIRLS. If only people who defend her style and choices would just say "Hey, what can I say? I like wack shit," instead of acting like she's the second coming and does something helpful for the world with her trash product and image. If only.
I'm going to look at some of the video to see who is who(m) on the panel (beside bell hooks, I don't recognize the women). I hope the woman with the "big" hair and the animal print shoes isn't the Beonce defender. It would just be refreshing if it wasn't her. Let me see... ETA: Yes, of course *she's* the defender. Anyway...
How the hell do you fix these quotes so the quote appears first and your response appears under it? I hate this, lol.
www.bet.com/news/celebrities/2014/05/07/bell-hooks-calls-beyonc-a-terrorist.htmlJanet Mock, author of the New York Times bestseller Redefining Realness, spoke up in Bey's defense, adding that she believed Beyoncé, at this point in her career, had control over the image. "I would argue she chose this image, so I don't want to strip Beyoncé of choosing this image — of being her own manager." Countered bell, "Then you are saying, from my deconstructive point of view, that she is colluding in the construction of herself as a slave." The thoughtful and respectful conversation continued with Shola Lynch discussing her daughter being inspired by Angela Davis. Mock added she felt inspired by much of Beyoncé's work, like the song "Partition." Mock explained, "Having 'Partition' come out a couple months before my book came out — when I am writing about sex work and sexual abuse and issues with my body, my sexuality — it was freeing to have Beyoncé owning her body and claiming that space." Still, hooks held her ground, responding, "I see a part of Beyoncé that is in fact anti-feminist — that is a terrorist, especially in terms of the impact on young girls."

Ms. Hooks held her ground, she wasn't to be swayed at all. And whomever that Janet Mock is, she needs to go somewhere and begin again if she can call this stealing that Beyonce has been doing over the yrs. "Work." Or anything out of that lying mouth an "inspiration." To me she basically said that Partition helped to sell her book which is probably what got her on beyonces CRAZYWAGON. Money is powerful aint it?
Janet Mock is speaking like just another stan, and she responded like one with the inability to come to Beyonce's defense with anything of substance, because there isnt anything solid in the defense of beyonce that could shut a conscious thinking person down in ANY debate. Ms. Hooks read beyonce on that magazine cover flop, and said that beyonce most likely had ".....very little control over that cover" and all Mock could come back with was..... "I would argue she chose this image, so I don't want to strip Beyoncé of choosing this image — of being her own manager"
I was like, thats all you have, that's your defense? Typical stan.
Thats all yall, have a very happy Saturday!

DAYUMM DAYUMM DAYUMM.....In my Florida Evans Voice. My pleasure, Missy! I posted this on the main destiny's rehab page in regard to "Ms." Mock: No offense to the LGBT community but gender reassignment does not change one's genetic code or XX/XY chromasomes. Gender reassignment essentially consists of plastic surgery and hormone treatments which essentially remove presumably fertile, functioning reproductive organs and replace them with artificial ones. There are many theories that suggest that not feeling natural with one's gender to have neurobiological origins. I am inclined to think that there are some deep seated psychological and even spiritual issues. In the case of "Ms." Mock, the issues are obvious and definitely deep seated.. her gender reassignment is just the tip of the iceberg. "Ms." Mock is not a woman and therefore cannot speak on women's issues, in my humble opinion.

Ummmm "Ms" Mock doesn't know what its like to be an impressible little girl. She doesn't have the frame of reference to be able to really understand the psyche of a young lady and the impact that the world, especially the images of womanhood, can have on a young woman. I feel the same way that you all feel, I agree with Bell Hooks 100%! Lets be honest, isn't in control of her instragram pictures let alone the the cover of a magazine. So now Janet Mock, is in "her" feelings about Bell Hooks and has released a vine of Bell Hooks supposedly signing along to drunk in love after this discussion, but I can't confirm that. Every time I come across the vine, I can't hear the song so she could be dancing to anything... check that out here

Even if bell hooks was dancing to it, she is not a young impressionable girl. That is another stan move, you can crtique something and still listen to something as an ADULT. ADULT being the key word, the Bey backlash is coming from people that actually care about children, their development and their futures. It's not about beyonce in a personal sense, it's not about what bell hooks may or may not listen to, it is about theses children that are being assaulted and maligned by these images and content

I had the pleasure of watching the whole thing yesterday and I agree with Ms. Hooks. She stood her ground and didn't back down, not even after Janet Mock tried to save face for Beyonce. You would have to be an idiot not to understand Ms. Hooks' point and perspective.
