I was talking with some acquaintances about the Mike Brown protests in Missouri and they were surprised to see the local police outfitted with military grade uniforms and gear. This is something I've been keeping an eye on for a little while but I thought this would be helpful infograph for people who may not have known
The military has been unloading their surplus on civilian law enforcement in the U.S., which is how Ferguson PD was able to be armed so heavily in such a short amount of time.
As to why they're using this military stuff...well, that's where the conspiracy thoughts start. I don't believe that the murder of Mike Brown was some sort of ritual or hoax. I have no reason to believe that he was a sacrifice, that he's secretly alive somewhere, or that he was never a real person to begin with. What I do believe is that his murder and the subsequent protests have been co-opted as a way to get Americans acclimated to the idea of citizens living under martial law.
Unarmed people are frequently abused and killed by cops in this country, particularly black and Latino men. Some slayings have been met with organized resistance and some of that resistance had been met with excessive force from police. The police were never outfitted like soldiers though, and the were certainly never more equipped than the National Guard (which is what seems to be the case in Ferguson right now). As far as I know the protests didn't start to escalate until after the police showed up with riot gear, tear gas, and Hummers. Did anyone else read VC's article about this? I know that he said that this situation isn't about race but this is one of the times when I think that he's wrong. This isn't the first time that the U.S. has used aggressive, military style tactics in or against black communities. The government airbombed and shot at black residents in Tulsa, OK in the 1920s to "protect" white citizens from an uprising. In upstate New York the military has using poor, predominately black neighborhoods as training grounds for battle because these places were "realistic" practice zones (and not 1 f*ck was given about the safety of the people who live there). VC mentioned about the martial law that was implemented in Boston after that false-flag bombing but this is above and beyond what BPD was doing. The long-term agenda may be martial law for everyone regardless of race but what I believe is happening NOW is that TPTB are using martial law on people who "deserve it" while the rest of the country and world watches.
Unfortunately there seem to be quite a few Americans who thinking these protestors "deserve it" too, thanks largely in part to mainstream media spin. Their access to the city is being limited but what networks like FOX and CNN are doing with the info they're actually able to get has been painting a very negative picture of the protesters. Most of the people down there aren't looting and the one most who were arrested for looting aren't even from Ferguson, MO. The media would rather talk about that than focus on why people are protesting in the first place - a young man being gunned down in the middle of the street by a cop and left FOR HOURS. They want to talk about gunfire that's allegedly coming from the crowd but they won't talk about how many people have been shot or assaulted by officers. There are youtube videos of Ferguson residents protecting stores from looters instead of the police. There are also tweets and reports from people on the ground talking about "protesters" from out of town assaulting people and trying to cause trouble (agent provocateurs, basically). They're going to ignore the protestors speaking up about the bad elements infiltrating the town because it doesn't fit in with the narrative they're selling to the public. Too much of the public is buying this tripe hook, line, and sinker. And when more protests happen in other parts of the country (there's no "if" for me), whether its for cases like this or not, more police departments will turn cities into battlefields.
I've rambled enough, though. What are your thoughts? Does anything about this situation seem fishy or flat out wrong to any of you?
