On the heels of the Barneys racial-profiling news, a petition has surfaced on Change.org asking “Shawn Carter a.k.a. Jay-Z” to end all partnerships with Barneys New York. The petition’s creator, Derick Bowers, writes, “We can no longer tolerate blatant prejudice and discrimination. It is clear that the minority buying power is devalued by some. We must withdraw support to those who will not support us. I’ve been a lifelong Jay Z fan. Jay Z is currently in partnership with Barneys New York for the release of his holiday collection — called “A New York Holiday” (or BNY SCC). Barneys lacks any connection with the black and hip-hop community. And without his vast wealth and brand power, they would see him the same as they see Trayon Christian. Jay Z should be appalled by Barneys actions, and withdraw all support from them. If he does this, he will send a clear message to all corporations that are likeminded, that this behavior cannot be tolerated any longer. Please join me in calling on Jay Z to withdraw his support from Barneys New York because of this discrimination.” FULL LINK: www.clutchmagonline.com/2013/10/petition-launched-new-slaves-t-shirt-created-response-barneys-discrimination-lawsuits/#commentsPETITION: www.change.org/petitions/shawn-carter-aka-jay-z-end-all-partnerships-with-barneys-new-york

2013 going on 2014 and people are still fighting for racial equality. This is what the elders speak of that the younger generation chose to ignore, try to separate themselves from and have the audacity to think this is an old school problem. Saddens me, really. So far I have even witnessed several posters on other blogs say things like, "This should teach people to shop online and stop shopping in stores." Oh really? Times were harder back in the day and instead of bowing down black people stood up and took a stand. Our people didn't try to find any means necessary to keep these racist people richer in order to purchase goods that weren't essential/mandatory to our survival. It feels like we're going backwards and caving in this time. Jay Z has let us know a long time ago what he is about and what he's made of, so to expect greatness from him is ludicrous. All of this reminds me of the very reasons why Harry Belafonte called him out in the first place. And what did Jay do? He called this legendary, freedom fighting elderly man a boy, laughed at him and brushed his shoulders off. Now karma is knocking at Jay's door with all eyes and ears waiting and some with baited breath to see what this Jigga man's gonnna do. I myself, have no faith in a man who says he is so powerful that his presence is a charity. *God complex* So if he did take a stand on this, would this be considered as charity because we know this kind of thing probably doesn't affect him, no? If he does anything it will more like be to try to play the middle, ride the fence. I just can't see him missing out on more money and another opportunity to gain more bragging rights. His PR Team is going to try to figure out how he can come out with the money and still look good.

If Jay was the "power" that he and VF would have us believe, then Barneys should be bending backwards to KEEP HIM....how much you wanna bet that IS NOT the case, and his coon ass actually needs and will try to hold on to THEM?
That's why I'm glad this guy called him out directly, it put him on the spot. A $350 belt being returned may not impact Barneys, but the Jay Z deal would a great deal more (even though Barneys doesn't need Jay)

Thanks for bringing awareness to this. Sadly, Jay Z will not risk his behind upsetting his masters, so I don’t see him doing this.
He’ll do just like he did Trayvon... Photo op with no solid commitment.
