Just a thought, but it seems as though Bey's apparent downhill spiral appears to have coincided with her union with Jay. Up until her Dangerously in Love album, in my opinion, Bey was on top. That album slayed, her performances were mesmerizing, she was highly respected in both the commercial and underground scenes and she was well on her way to reaching legend status. Totally loved the Check on it vid, Crazy in Love vid, Baby Boy, Cater for you, Girl..... she was truly amazing and a breath of fresh air on the music scene!! Although Jay was around then, she was obv still managed (controlled) by Daddy Matty, however, it seems after the DIL period the quality of her music and performances, again in my humble opinion, was just not the same. Since that period I have noticed:
-a decline in her music
- a serious lack of class in her performances, dress sense, lyrical content, which I believe is having a disgusting influence on females, particularly young black females, as we speak!
- her running away from ANYTHING afrocentric - another terrible influence on our black youth in particular
- having nothing to say on important issues which affect the real world, despite probably being the most famous black woman of our time. i mean she tries, but just doesnt cut it.
- lack of personality - her interviews (when she does them) seem so false and contrived
- serious lack of originality and ideas
I could probably go on, but what im saying is after watching the vid of her strange behaviour, not to mention Solange-gate, I think it is Jay who has brought her down and he's messing with her!
Perhaps her's jealous of her. A lot of black men in particular have this issue where if their self-esteem is low, they will try and pull down the self esteem of their mate. I could be wrong, but I reckon she NOW needs to be that strong, independent woman she so boldly sings about, and let him go, as I think it is him pushing her over the edge, especially of late.
As much as I cant stand her antics and regularly enjoy being a silent lurker on Destiny's Rehab Boards, I honestly wouldnt want Bey to wind up being yet another super talented black star in Hollywood who bites the dust. I just hope she can sort herself out and perhaps bring back that spark which she once had.

No. Jay actually contributed to her success...most of the deals she had was because of him, they are a brand.

Yes!! I agree Jay was her downfall!!
Yes, he contributed to getting her more deals and exposure but as far as quality, growing as an artist, her reputation - TOTAL DOWNFALL.
As ratty as Matty was, I think she'd be on a different track had she stayed with him! He knew how to keep the illusion!!!

You're right it was Jay who was the catalyst for Beyonce's downward spiral . But I can't blame him for everything because all those points you listed were going to take place with or without Jay based on how Beyonce was brought up. She's never had much to offer the world but good performances.

"The more successful I become, the more I realize I need a man"
Beyonce said this.
But now that I think about it....I wonder if that's part of Jays brainwashing and control of her? Sounds like something he would tell her, doesn't it?

No. It's her. She is just as bad as him. I don't see why he gets all or most of the blame.

We can all blame Jay until we're purple in the face, but I believe there's just so much more to all of this. Jay is indeed her handler, but from the looks of things, B has been a willing participant. With a combination of being desperate to be the best...by any means necessary, narcissistic, money hungry, insecure, and having a great need to always feel validated and better than others...she has had a lot to do with the way things turned out for her. And it doesn't help that Jay is her handler whom she shares a lot in common with. All she's had to do since she first entered the business is sing and dance while her current pimp took care of the real grimy work. Because she didn't get to where she is based on talent alone. A huge world like this and you mean to tell me B is the only woman out of billions who has talent? No! Both Mat and Jay put in the dirty work to make her happen.

Yeah I agree now....it's both.
Because if it weren't already in her to be evil, she would have gotten away from Jay.
However I still think he's the biggest blame for her visible fall from grace.

I do think that he's had a hand in her downward trajectory but I wouldn't say he's to blame. I think Jay has just helped along the inevitable but he's not the root cause of how she is. I think this is from not having Matty to help her bully credits and steal songs from people anymore. When he was leading her team it wasn't well known that she was a liar and thief so she was able to get material from good songwriters because they (mistakenly) thought they'd get some kind of credit for their work. After being outed by people like Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo people decided to keep their music away from her. Now the songs that she would have gotten first dibs on are being shopped to other singers and Bey has to pick from their leftovers. I never would have described her as genuinely classy but I agree that she used to be much more toned-down. I think part of it was matching her image to her age. If she and DC4/3 had been singing raunchy stuff parents wouldn't have bought albums for their kids. IMO her becoming more raunchy in the past year is more about competing with younger pop singers than her husband's influence. Twerking became trendy in the mainstream so she decided to take her coochie-popping to new lows. It's trendy to be raunchy, ratchet, and (faux) feminist so she fakes having some sort of sexual awakening post-baby and sings $2 hooker songs under the guise of "empowerment". She was never really afrocentric to begin with. She wore cornrows and afro-type wigs because they were trendy at the time; when Patra braids became popular again she jumped on that bandwagon for a few minute. She wore ankara fabrics when it was trendy but if you asked her about the histories of ankara, bogolanifi, kente cloth, etc. you'd hear tumbleweeds rolling through her skull. She always emphasized her mother's heritage over her father's despite the fact that they're both black. Creole isn't a race but people like her like to give that impression because it makes them feel special. She'll use some Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche quotes to lend feminist credibility to her music but if you asked her about the black feminist tradition and people like hooks, Lourde, Hill-Collins, Wells-Barnett you'd hear more tumbleweeds rolling around. She never had a real personality, intellectual depth, or deep philanthropic values. This, like her lack of songwriting skills, something that was hidden better when her father was captain of the ship.

I honestly think there are layers to all this. People think that either Beyonce or jay Z are in control when they aren't. that is just an illusion to help sell them to the weak minded who worship "boss" mentality. I once read an article about it, about the time "Diva" came out, I can't quite remember where. But Bey and Jay are puppets.
Beyonce's degenration into a rabid sex-obsessed raccoon was orchestrated by a group of old white men in a boadroom.
It's not about music, it's about influence. And it's not just a black thing, white people have Miley and Kesha. I've been reading up lately about the direction in which the world has been steered for the past couple of centuries. Everything from war to eduction to entertainment.

She must've thought she was really saying something great.

Jay was around before DIL. Mathew and Tina are to blame because they put up a front for decades about their marriage. Mathew had nothing to do with her success as a matter of fact, he's the reason for most of her business issues.
