Hello everyone! Happy New Year to you all! Wishing the best for everybody.
As a Beyonce fan (an objective one, not a Behive), I had been thinking about something yesterday while I was watching live show from the group K-Pop group TVXQ. Don't know why but suddenly Beyonce popped in my mind, one event in particular: her live at the Tokyo Dome in 2007 as part of her Beyonce Experience world Tour.
She was very famous and in demand back then. In Japan, and the rest of Asia, the general public usually doesnt care too much about American celebrities, unless if they are megastars. Many Amercican singers are almost nobodies in Asia, or just the cool flavour of the moment. That's because the Japanese music industry puts a great emphasis on their domestic stars first and foremost rather than foreign ones. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule: Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson... are/were megastars over there. Recently, the likes of One Direction, Taylor Swift and Avril Lavigne are popular.
Now back to Beyonce. In 2007 she did some performances to promote B'day, including one show at the Tokyo Dome. This venue is HUGE (60,000 seats) and so are the artists who perform there. MJ sold it out a dozen times. Madonna performed there as well. And compared to Asian acts who are a regular, few foreigners actually get the privilege to perform at this venue. Following this logic, it means that Beyonce was a HUGE STAR back in 2007, as the concert was said to be a sold out one.
However I noticed something very strange. To this day I found only ONE footage of this show and... there's NO FOOTAGE OF THE AUDIENCE INSIDE THE DOME. The clip showed Beyoncé singing "Listen", some pictures taken (maybe by her staff) and given to the Japanese press. Then journalists commented on the show. BUT THAT'S IT. This is odd to me as I've never seen a concert report by the Japanese mainstream media being done this way, they ALWAYS include audience live footage. AThey never report a show without showing the audience and its reaction.
So now I'm wondering if the Japanese press hasn't been told and then bribed by Bey's staff to lie about the way her concert occured. I have two theories: either this concert NEVER HAPPENED and it was all a set up, or the show wasn't sold out so they cover it up by not showing the audience.
Beyonce indeed gave a concert as part of a promotional campaign for B'day, in Tokyo, but the venue was much smaller (maybe 10-15,000 seats). Footage of the whole show is available on the net and was released by Beyonce's team.
Maybe this "Tokyo Dome show" was a big lie cooked by her PR team. You can watch the footage below. What do you think? Give your impressions.
