They only did it for 4 acts: Metallica, The Cure, Janet Jackson, and Aerosmith. My favorite was the first ceremony (Janet's) but I thought the others were pretty good as well. Does anyone think they'll do something like that again? I don't think it'll happen, partially because MTV doesn't really care about music anymore but also because there aren't any post-2000 artists who have had as big of an impact. I know MTV does that Vanguard thing at the VMAs but that's still below being an Icon. Like Timberfake, for example: what's iconic about his music or videos? Usher has him beat in terms of overall stats and I wouldn't call him iconic or game-changing either.
