I've never seen Matthew's parents...
And why did she post these ancient photos?

Good point about the other set of grandparents. Plus knowing how Bey operates, I’m guessing self validation.

One thing about it, Beyonce is gonna ride this "creole" thing til the wheels fall off. She's gonna make sure y'all get it through ya thick heads that she's not like the rest of "you people". she's a special kind of black person and you all will deal. If spicy creole gotta tell y'all everyday, she's willing to rehash this very VERY important detail about herself, until it's engraved into your memory. Deal!

Okay grandpa's genes are super strong. Tina looks so much like her father. And Beyonce (pre surgery). Now about Matty's family. Ms Tina didn'twant to deal with them because they wre dark skinned. Some font on LAS told about how she had a stuck p attitude whenever she went over for family events. And she would always want to distance her family from Mattys. She acted all high and mighty like they should be so grateful she gave their dark son the time of day. So Bey and Solange didn't grow up with Matty's family.
Also there is a HUGE difference between what creole people speak and actual French. This one time I was talking to a guy on the phone and I mensioned I spoke french and he bust out some creole and I was like what was that? Creole is far removed from modern day French. So BEyonce can pipe down with that hoity toity attitude. She want's to be exotical so so bad but she's not.

That's what always rubbed me the wrong way about her mentioning her maternal lineage. It never seemed like genuine pride to me, just a way to seem "better". Cecily Tyson never turned her nose up at "plain" black Americans because she's West Indian and has a different heritage. The Ayers-Allen sisters (Phyllicia and Debbie) are mixed but they didn't make it a prominent feature of their brands as celebrities.

Living with the Knowles' probably gave her horrible self-esteem.

You know, it's one thing to know who you are and who your people are. I can definitely understand that Louisiana creole pride. The way we say certain things, the kinds of foods we cook, the kind of music we dance to and we party like nobody's business. So that much I understand......BUT when someone is constantly putting up the same pictures over and over again, it's as if she's trying to tell the world something about herself. Is she trying to say she is better than others? Is she trying to erase that "black woman" image she broke the doors down with, when she used to have several sistahs with her when they started? What's really going on? Truth be known, the way B has been trying to attach "Creole" to her name is the same way many many many people in Louisiana are by way creole. The big difference is that it is our way of life and not just some tag attached to our clothes to separate us from others. I don't know why she keep recycling the same ole pictures. I've got beaucoup pictures. Varieties. Indians, whites, blacks. There's even a couple of Haitians. When you're really proud, you show everyone because it all came together to make you.

I never got why Beyonce seemed to make such a big deal out of her mother's heritage. Most of us have grandparents and/or great grandparents who are of mixed race but it's nothing to most of us well adjusted people of color. I'm not surprised by Ms. Tina's reaction to Matthews family. It's obvious the woman is color/hair struck, just look at how she favors Solanges little boy over Blue. Ms. Tina just looks like an evil woman to me, even when she was young and cute.

I had to come back to this thread because I need to be honest and say what is on my mind about being "Creole". Beyonce and her family has made me so mad concerning this topic. I feel their approach about this has more to do with bragging and letting others know they are better than the average black person. As a person who's grown up in this culture and can speak on much much more than "Gumbo". I feel hurt that they've decided to introduce themselves over and over again with a dig and a slight at others. The way they've handled this is enough to cause a continued separation among our people...Black people. When the truth of the matter is it's not so much a color line that makes one a Louisiana Creole...it's our rich culture. Which is in my eyes no different than any other black American family. If your family has been here for X amount of generation, then there's a possibility, whether you like it or not, that you are not full black. The Knowles failed when they decided not to show the Creoles of many shades, hair textures, eye colors, language. I know this to be true because of my very own family. Not every Creole looks a certain way. If this were true then why has B bleached her skin? Why is Mama Tina wearing hair pieces and wigs along with her daughter, B? If they want to stereo-type then why not present all of these "better than" qualities in it's natural form? I wear nobody's weave and my hair is long. I know many Creole families who share the same mother and father and yet their kids are of different complexions and different hair textures. I just don't want outsiders to give us a bad name because B and her Mammy got it all fucked up. I'd rather hear B say she doesn't want to be looked upon as black, than for her to take the cowards way out by shoving these same tired ass pics down our throats with hopes of sending a subliminal message. Because me and my family wave our Creole flag and fleur di lis with pride. Maybe B need to hang out with me to really learn what all of this is really about.
Dance wit me, Cher?

When you're really proud, you show everyone because it all came together to make you.My culture is Creole(Louisiana, Martinique, and Guadeloupe, West Indies) and I am proud of my heritage. What gets me is this antiquated, self-hating stereotype some ignorant Creoles (and others) push- that whole colorism/caste-like mentality. The truth is that it took many cultures to create what is considered "Creole". In my family, we come in every color, hair texture, eye color, etc. but we are ALL family and express love for one another and are proud of each other. Why highlight only one aspect of one's family? Where is Ratty Matty's family photos... are they not a part of who made Be-Yawn-say who she is? This reeks of self-hatred and displays a desperate attempt at self-validation (totally agree, Angelia!).
