Plant story by the PR team of Desperate & Co., or legitimate tea?
Personally I feel that even if it is a PR plant, it still says a lot about their marriage.
When you love someone, you wouldn't violate the sanctity of your bond and commitment by using it for attention, and lying. I would never sully my relationship by "playing with it" for some attention from other folks. To me, it's kinda like, people who say their child is sick...I never use my baby as an excuse for a day off because my love for her won't let me put a sickness or a bad thing on her, even if it's a lie!
But then, there's also the old adage of "where there's smoke, there's fire", so it makes you wonder....
