Great article! Love the end: "Those beautiful nappy-haired Afros worn by the Black Panther–esque backup dancers are props just like the floodwaters, the submerged New Orleanian backdrop, and the police car that keeps Beyoncé afloat throughout most of the video. Those darker-complexioned little girls who stand beside Beyoncé’s child, the voice of a queer and deceased black man, and a Katrina survivor were all vehicles to use for selling out her next world tour. Are we in need of mainstream blackness so badly that we’ll mistake its exploitation for validation? It’s as if we’re still waiting for some indomitable Black Savior to come and rescue us." www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2016/02/beyonc_s_formation_exploits_new_orleans_trauma.html

I read the article in its entirety and it is spot on. This woman has no shame at all. Worse part, some people actually fell for it.

dammit! everytime I leave sht pops off. Anyway, I've been on forced internet sabbatical, thought I'd take a moment to see what up round these parts and I come back to all of this? I can't believe how many people think beyonce has had some sort of awakening. we called it years agothat as soon as white folks started paying her dust she would come running back into the arms of black folk. and boy did she do that. I'm in a rush but I will be reading all of the comments on this saga.

Of course she does! and you have some dumb ass Black people screaming "YASSSSSS KING BEY IS ALL ABOUT BLACK POWER!!" lmaoo.. I'm now convinced that her and her evil looking mother are witches, there's no way people genuinely believe that the garbage she continuously drop are "amazing" and "empowering". C'mon.
Her praise and worship don't match her "talent" ant trashy catalog.

Beyonce Steals Again Illegally Using Copyrighted Footage For Her Deceitful New Video ‘Formation’ While Ripping Off A Model's Pictures And Is Slammed By The National Sheriffs' Association February 8. 2016 As most people who read the internet know, singer Beyonce, has a long and sordid history of willfully stealing copyrighted songs, music videos, photos and movies from copyright holders. Many copyright holders have publicly slammed Beyonce for this misconduct, as copyright infringement not only robs people of their work and money, it is a federal and international crime. Beyonce applied for permission to use video footage and was denied, but used it anyway, which constitutes copyright infringement. The New York Times reports, "The video’s release came with controversy. Not long after it was put online, the filmmakers Abteen Bagheri and Chris Black took to Twitter and claimed “Formation” used footage from “That B.E.A.T.,” their 2013 documentary about New Orleans bounce, without permission.'They stole it,' said Mr. Black, who produced 'That B.E.A.T.,' which was commissioned by Nokia and Sundance. 'We were there for a week and hung out with the people and immersed ourselves in the culture. We put a lot into it ourselves. He said Beyoncé’s team had initially asked to license the footage, B-roll scenes of the New Orleans music scene, days before a Feb. 1 deadline for a decision Mr. Bagheri, the documentary’s director, said on Twitter that he was asked for approval as well, but had denied the request..." Beyoncé Releases Surprise Single ‘Formation’ Ahead of Super Bowl Performance
FEB. 6, 2016 - Beyoncé is not coming to the Super Bowl empty-handed. A day before her planned performance at Sunday’s game, the singer released a new single, “Formation,” along with a music video that invokes Hurricane Katrina and black pride (“I like my negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils,” she sings.
As has become Beyoncé’s habit, “Formation” was announced simultaneously on her Instagram account and official website with little warning. The song and video are also streaming on Tidal, the music service owned by the singer’s husband, Jay Z; the site is offering a free download of the track in exchange for an email address. The high-profile release follows an up-and-down week for Tidal after the service released Rihanna’s “Anti” early because of an online leak.
“Formation,” written with Swae Lee of the rap duo Rae Sremmurd, is Beyoncé’s first major release since the surprise drop of her self-titled album in December 2013. On “Formation,” the singer addresses not only race, but rumors about her celebrity (“Y’all haters corny with that Illuminati mess,” she purrs, a reference to a popular conspiracy theory about a cult of rich and powerful public figures)...
The video’s release came with controversy. Not long after it was put online, the filmmakers Abteen Bagheri and Chris Black took to Twitter and claimed “Formation” used footage from “That B.E.A.T.,” their 2013 documentary about New Orleans bounce, without permission. “They stole it,” said Mr. Black, who produced “That B.E.A.T.,” which was commissioned by Nokia and Sundance. “We were there for a week and hung out with the people and immersed ourselves in the culture. We put a lot into it ourselves.”
He said Beyoncé’s team had initially asked to license the footage, B-roll scenes of the New Orleans music scene, days before a Feb. 1 deadline for a decision Mr. Bagheri, the documentary’s director, said on Twitter that he was asked for approval as well, but had denied the request.
In a statement, a representative for Beyoncé said the footage was licensed properly. “The documentary footage was used with permission and licensed from the owner of the footage,” Yvette Noel-Schure said. “They were given proper compensation. The footage was provided to us by the filmmaker’s production company. The filmmaker is listed in the credits for additional photography direction. We are thankful that they granted us permission.”...

You know what..when I think about the things other black artists had to go thru omg!! There were venues artists couldn't even enter because of their skin color. Artists who make great music only to wake up and hear their work being used to fill white pockets by other white singers. Artists who clearly had music that was enjoyed by white and black people but were still expected to use seperate bathroom facilities and go thru the back door. It's infuriating that she is getting so much praise for showing solidarity for a movement when she is only using it for her personal financial gain!! She steals all the work from unknown people (And known) people) and they never get any praise for it. But to exploit the tragedies and movements of Black People is a new low. Especially since most of the people she catering to can't even afford her concert tickets. She became famous using the same tactics white music executives used on black artists in the past, and they are using the hell out of her while she is using the hell out of the delusional beehive.

Help, help helpppp! I am sick, i just say an ebony story talking about mlk and struggle music and they had the gall and nerve to include foryellowboneit
How can a song laced with colorist dribble be grouped with struggle music
I swear they have used beypawnce to dilute and pollute and because blacks have beem trained to be colorstruck and are easily programmable nobody denounces this lunacy
Lunacy, this is sick and .
Hot sauce, nostrils, there was nothing NOTHING empowering about that song or the imagery of afroed black women standing behind a blonde weave with her azz out
Is it really over for us, smh

Let's be clear to those who may think Bey is everything to NOLA. She is not. So much so, that I know she and her family hardly ever...if ever has to worry about a fan stampede taking place when they are spotted. We are a very cultured place and people and most of us don't worship her or anyone else using our image, our very own Cajun-Creole culture, our struggle, our language or people to lift themselves up to gain more money, fame and whatever the hell else there is to gain from us. In our own way we uplift and support the real local artist...old and new. They are the true flavor in our city. Most of us just see her as a Houston native who happens to have family ties to a country town in La., but not N.O. Although they may share some things in common...They're very different.
Reading this article brings tears to my eyes because I know...I know exactly what this person is saying and how they feel in it's entirety. Disturbing our loved ones grave for self gratification is beyond disturbing to me. Now, I'm not sure if this will come back to bite this sista, in her new Dereon derriere, but from what I've been taught from my culture *wink's eye*, there are certain things ya just don't do, Baby. And with me just now learning that ALL HURRICANES follow the same path of the slave ships our ancestors were on...just makes me ponder more.
R.I.P to my fallen N.O. family (by relation or not) and Peace, power and love to all the survivors, no matter where you are. I still pray for y'all daily...Ya herdme?! XOXO

So the only one allowed to make real money is BeDounce and dimwit J.
Sine these two always brag about how rich they are they should be paying a pretty penny for their theft.

They are despicable, how people can laud theft from true artists and creators is beyond me
Its just mind control, marketing and propaganda, people were taught and programmed to exalt these clowns
If you dissect their actions which people are also programmed to never do as they dont want to be lumped in and classified as a dark butt hater you will see how low rent and despicable they are
Birds of a feather indeed
Stealing, cheating, swindling then turn around bragging about their ill gotten gains
They are morally bankrupt

One thing's for certain. The only award or rather historical award Beyonce has rightfully deserved and earned... is an award for going down in music history as the only music artist with the most lawsuits garnered in her career. This is exactly the kind of award that she deserves a standing ovation for. Hell, I'd even stand up, cheer and clap my ass off for her. LOL! Yes, I know there are other artist who get sued, too, but I don't know of and can't think of anyone else on this level of pathetic and ridiculous. If so, will somebody please enlighten me? I don't know or even understand what others see or think of this, but in my eyes this sort of thing speaks volumes about her artistry, her character and her talent.

^agreed, its just ______ i don't even know at this point and then she brings her big head and pompous attitude and expects people to kiss her azz, exalt her, respect her, its sick and pathetic
That is why in another thread i said still stand by that i think something is mentally/spiritually wrong with this chick
I really think her mind is WARPED and that of her ardent fans
I dont think its too late for her to come to the light but there is no incentive for a narcissist to as they will to accept that their dastardly deeds and that they are not what they have deluded themselves as being, narcissit are invested in their created reality
Because she had Kelly to feed off of stand on she is used to that, accustomed, probably sees nothing wrong with it, entitled
And because she has weak, color struck (Yvette) or ulterior motive driven people around her enabling it i think shes warped for real for real
Her sex dancing and lip synching is just that and not this phenomenon they try to make it out to be
If it wasnt for tina t who would she even be? Who is this chick?

That's one of the reasons I'll never like her. After all the copying and ripping off and leeching saying she's her idol just to associate with her and just to perform with her and perform her songs since Destiny child days, that's what she did in the end. A filthy and horrible thing that they said on that awful vulgar song! What a thank you.

The lack of reaction also pissed me off but actually the lack of hate reflects that most people don't care about her enough to even notice that line and even follow her that much, and the magnified small and fake stanning community is engineered. Think about it, if she really was that big and everybody cared, it would be controversial! The lack of reaction means nobody takes her that seriously, it was all just a fun trend for some people for a while haha!
